Welcome to my portfolio! I'm Candace Ranger, your local internet mimble. I make art, stories, and worlds full of wonder. As an illustrator, writer and graphic designer, I bring imagination to life through middle grade books, adult novels, short stories, graphic novels, comics, and picture books. My love for all things fantasy or sci-fi shines through in my work, and I also draw inspiration from singing, listening to music, board games, video games, reading, movies, gardening, photography, fine art, and being a mother.
My Story
As a child, I used to roam around our family home, fighting imaginary villains. I created a full dystopian world where the weaponized clouds were controlled and dissolved anyone under its shadow. There were aliens, ghosts and high end weapons you'd only see in a sci-fi video game. I not only lived in my own stories, but I illustrated and wrote them as well. When I was around the age of seven, I sketched a cast of vegetables, the red onion being the main character. The onion had been invited to a birthday party where his classmates put purple dye in his bath water. That was how the red onion came to be. My mother noticed my love for illustrating and storytelling and entered us in a book competition. I didn't win, but the process kickstarted my future career.
Now that I'm an adult, I still live an exciting life, expressing myself creatively as I can. I have a sense of exploration which is why I'm an American now living down under in Australia. I started my art career in New Hampshire as a fine artist in 2017 and have been in many galleries in America and a few places in Australia. My love for writing started around the same time. In 2019 I embarked on my journey in learning fantasy illustration and fell in love. After I had my daughter two years ago, I wanted to do more than be a gallery artist or a fantasy illustrator. That's when I I became inspired to create my own children's books.
